I am wondering what else I should be looking for when I look at a pulled 6.9? From what the guy has told me it has been sitting between a year and two years as well as pulled it just before he rolled his truck. I know the early 6.9's had a block heater crack issue. Anything else I should look at before I decided to take or pass ?
On a side note, my 7.3 just recently cavitated and this 6.9 is the only one I have been able to find in my area w/o buying a drop-in replacement. By all the posts I've read up on, it should drop in for the most part right?
of my 7.3? Bought it last April '10, 245k miles. I have roughly put on 6k miles since buying it. I have kept up all maint on it (i.e., cleaning CDR, keeping SCA levels up, etc), but I had issues shortly after buying it finally coming to head last November. Thought it was a head gasket but it was worse than that.
previous owner(s) must not have kept up on her.any signs of SCA's in the coolant upon purchase or?

I'm not sure if I checked it when I first bought it although I remember changing out the radiator fiarly soon after purchasing the truck. The rad was all corroded up and crap. Once I installed the new rad, water pump & fan clutch (I had doubts...), she ran fairly okay but kept losing some water. I thought it was a leaky thermostat housing gasket since it showed some wetness, but it wasn't that at all. About a week after heading to the ocean she started to steam out of the tail, but still no coolant smell. IT wasn't until I thoght my injectors or IP had gone is when I noticed she was getting coolant in the oil filler neck.
I was hoping to find a replacement engine to throw into her so I can have her running again since it is hard ding a house remodel w/o a working truck. But she is outside, I have no garage and will not be able to do any of the engine work on her while she's in the mud.
A buddy & me pulled the engine, brought it to his place to tear it down. Sent the block * heads for off to be pressure checked and magfluxed. That is when I was told that #8 and #6 have a pin hole leak in the cylinder walls. Only coolant in the oil, no oil in the coolant/rad system.
I have been looking for a spare parts truck & such but nothing cheaper than a grand around here. Engines it seems people seem to think are solid gold. One on craigslists last week the guy was asking 1,200$ for a 190k mile engine.

Reason: very bad typos >_<
It has been an exercise of patience & persistence. hehe. Everything else on her is in really great condition for the age, just the engine was not treated very well. There were many things I found while working on the engine that were "WTF" moments.
I guess I'm not looking in the right places or am not using the right search terms. So I guess what should I look for in an engine after it has been pulled? Do I need to re-do everything on her (i.e., head gasket ?) while she's still out on a pulled engine?
I'm asking because I have never used a pulled engine before nor have I ever worked on a diesel to this length either.
Sweet didn't see that #5 post originally. Thanks! The only engine I've seen shows up on that site is the '89 7.3 for 1,600. Where did you find the others?
ya, and for my interesting post that is went everything was hitting the fan. >_<
