2001 f250 W/ 5.4l V8 lousy engine?

hey wanting to buy an f250. Found one but with the lousy 5.4L in it. It is a crewcab long bed. That engine probably wont have much power with such a large truck will it. Also i didnt look hard but anyone know HP, Torque, Towing capacity on the 2001 5.4? Also it is the 2001 4x4 offroad package. would that have front torsion bars?

Lousy? Why start insulting the truck without even knowing much about it?

There are thousands of very satisfied 5.4l owners out there, and a good many post here on FTE. Are you planning on towing with it? If so, how much weight?

Has coil springs over a solid Dana 60 axle, no torsion bars here.

That year is the 2v, PI heads, and makes 260 HP. More specs can be found under the "articles/specs" tab up top. I would look them up for you but that's too much work on my phone.

Just based on your opening post I'm gonna say you better pass on that truck. Sounds like you've already made up your mind.

Or... how about taking it for a test drive? That might help you tell if it has enough power for your needs. Speaking of needs, what are your needs?

Are you towing a heavy load on a regular basis? Do you demand to get to 60mph as fast as possible? Do you think an engine is weak if it has to downshift when pulling a hill? Are you going to be racing this truck? Do you plan to put on a lift with big honkin' tires?

If you answered yes to any of those questions then again I'll say you better pass on that truck.

Here's a link to some specs on that model year truck

2001 has leaf springs, not coils. '04 is the cut off for leafs. but i agree, i tow with the 5.4 and it is bearable. especially if it is mostly flat. its certainly no drag racer but its a truck and does the job well

I have the same truck with 3.73 gears in it. While its no red light racer i tow a 10,500 pound boat around with it just fine.

Yeah, you guys got me there. I was too busy focusing on typing out a post on my tiny cell phone keypad to think of the year cutoff.

i have an 01 with the 5.4 only issues ive had with mine have been due to previous owner abuse. and mechanics torquing plugs at twice what they should be. other than that. mine is leaf springs in the front. and i have towed in excess of 16k behind it with the bed fully loaded. pulled on the scale at a touch over 23k lbs. now that being said. i didn't go at highway speeds up hills and she screamed some. but she did it just fine. im in construction so my truck tows and hauls at least 2-3 times a week. so depending on what you want to do that truck should be just fine for you.

Hey guys sorry for calling it lousy. I wasn't thinking. I respect all things ford! anyways it sounds like I could handle a V8 over a V10. After reading the posts it sounds like it could pull a 10K trailer with no problems. Thanks guys.

own a 5.4 with tons of upgrades. just check out my sig. the 5.4 is ok but if i have to do it again i would never buy this motor in anything ever! I did drive a 02 ex cab 4x4 f-250 with a six speed manual and 4.10 factory gears and stock size tires and it was way better than the auto truck i have. Go V10 or diesel with a truck that big honestly

im just being honest, its a ok motor but its not a "truck" motor. V10 is better because of the power and a diesel is just a diesel. And before anyone says anything i know a guy personally who has a 03 F-350 4x4 crew cab long bed with 4.10 that he put a four inch lift with 35's and that thing is a total dog. Granted its stock motor, exhaust, etc that thing is just plain gutless.
