Well, it wasn't crappy until after school. At school, I parallel park on a hill. When I went to pull out, there was alot of traffic on the hill, due to a a large accident farther up the street. I went to pull out, hit the gas, and started going backwards. It turns out that I had forgetton to put my truck in Drive. So I heard a large bang and felt a smash. I hit the Pontiac Grand Prix SE that was parked behind me. Luckily, it was just my hitch, which damaged the bumper, light bar on the front of the car, and the hood. Anyway, the owner of the car was nice and everything, but now my insurance is probably going to skyrocket, and I did get a $133 ticket. So now my day has turned crappy. Anyone who has been in an accident who is 16 who has only been driving for 4 months? There aren't many things that I could've done that are more stupid....
...My 16yr old son was driving into town, windows rolled down, tunes blasting on the CD, brand new shirt lying on the passenger seat gets caught by the wind and flips onto the floorboards...
He got concerned about the shirt getting dirty and leans down to pick the shirt up...
He looks back up just in time to plow into a car stopped in traffic in front of him at 45 mph....fortunately, nobody got hurt and we did have insurance...Now he pays for his own insurance...
One of lifes little lessons to keep us on our toes....
Yes, it is a lesson learned. If only I had checked, I could've avoided the whole thing. My parents have talked to our insurance agent, who thought it was ridiculous that I got a ticket. Get this: the ticket was for "Improper Backing." LOL. Anyways, the agent also said that it is possible that they may forgive what I did, so no insurance going up or anything. I certainly hope thats the case.
...something I just remembered, I once got a ticket for "failure to control" when I rolled a truck into the freeway median...I lost control due to a snowstorm and slid off the road due to ice...
The funny part was the cop almost got run over by a rubber necking passerby due to the same icey road conditions...
Yeah that sure sounds like a crappy day. dont worry though it could have been worse. Let me tell you a story it's truck related too......... Last monday after a long day in the shop i went home to put some extra hours in on the race truck (69 ford F100 short box with a 351W) and was going about taking the front end off and all i had left to do was remove the rad support and the grider i was using slipped and cut into my hand ouch that stings now i still have all my fingers but i'll know to be more careful the next time and not rush to finish the job.............stupid canadian
I wouldn't sweat it too much - it could be worse. You could be sitting out in the middle of the Kuwaiti desert, getting shot at. When I was 16 (I'll be 21 in 3 weeks), I rear ended somebody at about 35mph. It caused a chain reaction - 5 cars total. Ugly stuff. hang in there for a few years, and your insurance will level out. I don't think you should've gotten a ticket, though. A talking-to? absolutely. A warning? sure. A ticket? nah.
Stuff happens. That's why we have insurance. At least nobody was hurt, and the other guy wasn't driving a Ferrari.
Yeah I definitely know it could've been worse. Some good news though-I got something in the mail saying that my ticket fee was incorrect-it was actually $86 instead of $133. Real knowledgable cop, huh? And apparently the car I hit got totalled. Now, I couldn't have done more that $2000 damage to it...apparently a real piece of crap. Just a reminder if I didn't mention it-it was like a 92 or 93 Pontiac Grand Prix. I agree, the ticket was absolutely ridiculous. I have decided to fight it, and they should be sending a court date soon. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. Anyways, thanks.
