i just bought a 86 f-350. it has a 351m and c-6 trans. edelbrock carb.
i need to button up a few things on her.
there is no kickdown linkage to the trans.
can i get a stock one from the junkyard to work with the edelbrock?
or do i need to get a locar style cable?
i was wondering if the edelbrock was good for pulling, or if i should get a stock one back on her.
i have had very little experiance with a edy ,and that was on a buddys car that was hopped up a bit.
i know they are very tuneable and you can get all sizes of jets.
i just dont know if the are good for pulling a load.
i bought her in ohio and used a tow dolly to pull my wife buick back with.
she had two burnt plug wires and dirty pilot jets.
the motor was stumbleing at idle but was better at a higher rpm.
i did a tune up and cleaned the pilots by pulling the idle mixture screws out and cleaning the ports with carb cleaner. worked good.
A small edelbrock carb would be good for towing, especially with a dual plane intake.
Go to jegs or summit, and it may take a little bit of hunting, but edelbrock makes a bracket kit that goes to the carb to accept the original ford kickdown. Edelbrock also has a excellent website with down loadable manuals for all their carbs and parts. Summit usually links to these manuals for the parts they sell.
i was looking through there last night. all that i could find is that i have the right throttle bracket for putting the linkage on.
there is a small fitting with a screw for the connection that i need .
but it didnt say if it was for stock or for the locar cable.
if it slowes down raining here i might take a trip to the junkyard and see how all the carb connections are on a stock one to see if i can retro fit
My Supercab has an Edelbrock a on it, she has the linkage on the carb, but no kickdown "bar" I guess you would call it, that goes to the tranny. I found that you don't really need it if you don't mind down shifting when needed using the gear selector...
that edelbrock ford kickdown linkage is at almost every autozone and orielly's. its about 35 bucks i think. im gunna get it for my truck but after i finish fixing everything that needs to be done first.
