I hate to say this, but you should take the edge off. it is not good for the transmission.
I have my egr valve unplugged. I do it to stop the exhaust flow. I do not have any issues from unplugging it..
The truck has 75,000 miles and the transmission shifts very smooth. The dealership I purchased the truck from put me in contact with the original owner and he told me that he rarely ran the truck in anything besides the stock/0 mode. The edge doesn't affect the transmission if I run it on 0, right?
I use to have a platinum. The edege still effects the truck no matter what setting you have it on. The "0" setting is STOCK HP setting, not stock TUNING. "0" is edge tuning at STOCK hp. The edge will hurt the trans when ever your foot pushes the engine to send more than STOCK HP to the trans. So.... you can have it on level 5 (or 6 if you buy it) and never pass STOCK HP level with your foot.
I was on a long straight consistent hill one time with the platinum. I held my foot at 50mph and was at "0" level selction on the edge. I then gradualy increased the power level (0 -> 1 -> 2 -> 3...) and as I did this I feelt an increase in power out of the truck.
You are not chaning the tuning of the engine with each # level selection. They are all the same tuning BUT... each level has a different throuttle map input.
My 04 will trigger a cel after a long time with the EGR unplugged, I run a machined aluminum slug in place of the EGR valve, and keep the old EGR valve plugged in zip tied to the intake elbow. Remove the butterfly plate from the intake wether or not you dissconnect the EGR. on 04s the throttle body on the intake draws exhaust in through the EGR system, on 05 and later 6.0s the scoop in the exhaust serves the same function.
Check your intake elbow to see if there is actually a throttle body or not. Some 03-04 trucks have what looks like a throttle body but there is not one on there. they still have the connections but there is nothing in the throttle body. Guess they put the connections on there so there were no lose connections on the electrical harness.
