I've searched an searched and searched for starters.
First, I have been looking for a replacement 6.6' bed for weeks and have not come up with anything cheaper than $3,500 dollar!?!?!? WTF? Is this normal? I hear the short beds are rare but really? Ridiculous!
While searching I came across a link to LMC. Does anyone have any experience with the wheel well sections they sell? Or the entire sides? My truck bed is in mint condition other than the wheel well starting to rust.
Also, if someone can source me a new short bed for less than both my arms and one leg that would be amazing!!
$3500 seems very high to me. I run across them here once in awhile for a lot less than that. Generally from $1000 to $2000.
I'm pretty sure if you're patient and keep your feelers out you'll eventually find something much more reasonably priced. I suppose it depends on where you live and what year box you find. $3500 maybe for a new takeoff 2010/2011 box might be kind of reasonable, but and older unit should be much less.
I just did a quick search in my area out of curiousity and within a minute I found a couple of boxes in good shape to mint (as the sellers stated) for $1000 to $1200. The $1200 unit is actually a "mint" short box.
Many 02's, mine included, rust around the rear wheel wells right where the inner fender well meets the side panel. There's a rubberized caulk in the joint where the water collects. That said, any fix is short term so another bed will cost effective according to my body guy who's been cutting out the sheet metal on these. Be patient and save up and keep looking around. I patched mine myself but mine is a work truck with over 190K.
Anyone have any info on the LMC site? The cost of 2 complete sides is pretty decent(compared to a new bed) does anyone have experience with this company?

LMC is a good company. They sell replacement parts from vintage on up to newer. That said, for the price they cost they likely won't fit exactly, you'll probably need to do some finish work. Never worked w/ those specific panels but the ones I've seen for older applications were certainly not OEM quality. I don't mean they were junk but just be aware that you'll most likely need to do a bit of work on your end - they're typically a little lighter gauge and won't fit exactly w/out some work.

I went thru this last year. Got sick of the rust starting to form on the wheel wells so I ordered new quarter panels(entire sides) and the wheel pans that go inside them. The problem in this area is the foam the factory uses between the wheel pan and quarter panels on the insides. That foam holds in moisture, salt, etc and then you got rust. Anyway I had the bed removed completely, we used Por-15 on everything new and the underside of the bed and problem solved. It has been a year since, so far so good.
I am investigating my options for my 05 f350. I bought the truck 2 years ago and no rust. Last year the bubbling started on the right rear wheel and it broke through the paint this year. This month the bubbling started on the left side. I looked for a new take off but the 6' beds are tough to find around here. I now looking at having the rust fixed but I'm not sure if I should use patch panels or use full quarter panels to fix the problem. I love my truck but I'm not real happy about the rust issues (especially after the 5 year warranty was up)
