So I have a 1990 F150. The engine has a ton of problems. The head gasket, oil pan gasket and valve cover gaskets are bad. It runs strong but lacks torque and power. It's also really hard on gas. I wanted to have it rebuilt or at least fixed so it doesn't do any more damage. Will a shop just rebuild an engine for a reasonable fee? I don't have a lot of $ for that now tho. I know a lot of shops just use jasper engines now. Or should I say screw it and drive it till it blows up. I don't want to scrap the truck because Ive put a ton into it. What should I do?!
Sounds like you need to pull the motor and either do a total rebuild or check compression and replace gaskets. A shop will charge you a lot. I'm pretty sure you can get a remaned long block for like a grand. A lot of options, just depends what your wallet can handle. Good luck.
if u take it to a shope they will rape u on labor. but if u can pull it out ur self a rebuild is pretty easy to do ur self and a rebuild kit is quit cheap. A chilton or hanse manual will basicly walk u through it step buy step and the rebuild can usually be done in a weekend given u have all the parts u need. and you also got us to help u on the way if needed. if u are certion that its just ur head gaskets and upper part of motor that needs changed u can do that with out pulling the motor and farly easily as well. would also be ur cheapest bet.
