Any ex owner have the hood liner on their diesel? Pro's/Con's in mn im
thinking it would help keep the heat/noise under the hood. Not sure but, it might retain heat on the humid 90+ degree days here?
I have a liner and light. At my buddies house we had my hood up and his 02 F350 hood up looking stuff over and noticed the light will go out after about 5 minutes.
Had liner on my 03. Was not on the 05, so I bought it along with plastic push in supports. 15 minute job to install. I also added the rubber lip seal above radiator support frame. Both seemed to reduce noise level in the interior.
Hood liners do not cause the engine compartment to be any hotter. The airflow is what cools the engine compartment and the hood liner does not affect that. The liner will keep the paint on the hood cooler.
I elected to not install the factory light. From my 03, I don't remember that it put out very much light and thus not worth it.
I've seen little retractable hood lights. One of those might be a little more usefully anyway. I was just thinking that if I'm on the side of a dark rual road even a crapy light might be useful.

Those retractable ones can be salvaged from the 96 style chevy trucks or the 86 style ford trucks. Or new if you know a place.
I added both to my '05. Neither were factory installed in 2005.
I just went to the dealer and ordered both. It's long ago and I don;t have the part numbers, but asking the dealer to look up an 04 or 03 hood pad and underhood light should get the job done.
I wired my underhood light to work when the parking lights are on.
i dont understand fords rhyme or reason. I have 2 05 x's in the garage now the limited has a liner but no light the eddie bauer has neither. both trucks were bought new and both are 6.0 's. I dont notice any difference in noise or heat between trucks.
The liner is actually a fire blanket. In the event of a under hood fire the plastic clips that hold the liner to the hood melt and the liner falls down on the motor and with the heat of the fire wraps itself around the motor snuffing out the fire.
Sometimes is vehicles have neither the liner or light the hood has been changed from an accident.
The pad removal must have been a mid-year thing for the 2005s. I ordered mine new and it wasn't on the option list. At the same time, Ford stopped putting the mats in the console and cubby bin. (I bought them at the parts counter and put 'em in) It's all part of de-contenting to save money for the maker.
Hood pads are for heat and noise. They help protect your hood's paint, and help reduce noise getting into the cabin. I have read more than once about fire suppression but I jsut don't buy it. I just can't see this working in actuality. All clips would have to give at the same time, and the blanket cover the engine well enough so suffocate the fire.
