I used to have an '02 F350 that the power steering whined really bad and it steered too stiff w/only about 25k miles on it. I flushed the system and put in synthetic. That solved it. Sold the truck w/137k miles on it and didn't have a single issue w/ noise or stiffness.
well last week I completely drained the power steering system and refilled it with new fluid and 1 bottle of lucas. I gave it a few days to work in and still no difference at all. The engine speed makes no difference either. I can put it in neutral, rev it up, no brakes, and it still dont turn. I know some of you are looking at the big tires and dual stabilzers as adding to the problem but 6 months ago the truck was all stock and the problem was the same. Did all new ball joints too. As soon as you start moving its fine. So question remains... Box or Pump?
Hi guys, I tried a bottle of the Lucas and topped off the fluid, drove it, turned it almost to lock both directions several times, still no difference.
I was thinking of drain and new synthetic fluid?????? should I spend the money or save the $$$ toward a new pump?
Is the pump that easy to change? i dread getting an oil bath removing it. any tips? I almost wish it was the box. I already adjusted out the play and Im just nervous about it.

I had a similar problem with power steering not really being there when not giving it gas...I found myself two footing to get in and out of certain places. THEN one day got in the truck and no power steering at all!!!! Changed out the pump...still nothing!!!!
I have no idea where to go with this. Gear box, brake booster, perhaps collapsed or clogged line. However it seems as though fluid is getting through the lines and I have some brakes...there is a little kick back or fluttering when really stopping hard.
any ideas is appreciated!!!!!
