This morning I drove down to the gas station to put some air in a tire, and I noticed that when I started driving the truck was bucking and running like crap. It was noticable starting in 1st, and really noticable when I would shift to second. After that it seemed like it was running perfect. It was acting like I was starting in 3rd and shifting to 4th. Any idea whats going on here? I have read a lot about the EGR issues.
Thanks for the reply. Maybe next weekend I will have some time to tear into it a little.. just recently found a blown pan gasket as well.. Might just yank the motor and freshen it up some, new clutch, etc.. Good time to chop the cat out.
A vacuum gauge can tell if your cat is plugged and you might as well pull the codes and see what the computer says. When my MAP sensor failed it didn't set a code for the MAP sensor but it did set a lean code. When I disconnected and plugged the vacuum hose it ran better. I checked for the 5v reference voltage on the MAP connector and checked the temp sensors and TPS. Still not sure I replaced the MAP with a JY one which solved the problem until I picked one up from Napa.

Well after work I drove the truck another ~30 miles, and this problem just disappeared. Not really sure whats going on. Tomorrow after school I'm gonna pull the plugs and see if they have any carbon build-up. I am thinking a 6liter tune-up is in order.
Never a bad idea to change the tune up items if in doubt about their age or condition. While I was checking the MAP sensor issue I replaced the wires, cap, rotor, and cleaned the 1 year old Autolites. The coil to distributer wire and #5 wire had discolored terminals and along with the cap and rotor were at least 5 years old but they were still working.

Pulled the plugs today after school, and they were completely coated. I cleaned them up with the sand-blaster and the truck is running a lot smoother now. Definately time for a tuneup.. Now I gotta talk my dad into helping me yank it out, replace the clutch, gaskets, a tuneup, and whatever else I can find while I'm there, AND get it back in the truck in a weekend... Oh Joy!...
