I have a '89 F250 with the 5.8l that hasn't left the property in around 10 yrs. Tried to start it and run it some every once in awhile but, as with most all sitting vehicles, every time was a chore. Anyway, went to bust it off some time last year and I couldn't hear the fuel pump. Tested it and no workie. A new inline pump is spendy and I didn't have any spares off anything so I figured I would try to bring this one back to life. So I took the pump to the shop, mity vac'd it full of ATF and diesel mix, filled some clear tubing with the ATF diesel mix, and looped it from the inlet to the outlet, let it sit. Every couple days I would beat it around, shake the snot out of it, and hit it with 12 volts. You could feel it bump, but not spin. Did this for about a month or two. My tubing popped off one day shaking it and covered me with the mix, so I refilled everything with a mix of diesel and 2 stroke oil. Repeated procedure. Decided to hit it with 18 volts for the heck of it. Can't hurt, cause it doesn't work anyway. Pulled the 6 volt batt. out of the Buick and wired it in series with a 12 volt. Hit the pump and... not much difference. Did seem to hit harder but not spin. Last night, shook the snot out of it, beat on it, danced around it chanting, threw the juice to (18 volts) it and bam... she barked to life. Oh Glory!! Didn't want to spend $$ on something that doesn't get driven. Not sure what exactly worked in what I did, but something happened and that's a good thing. Took 3 months and I don't know how long it's going to hold up, but at least I can get it started and move the dang thing.
