This is my first post on the forum, I have learned a lot from here but I have a ?. I just got the truck back together from changing injector cups and got the truck started, but I put in about 5gal of water to get it out of the shop. After letting truck run for about 5 min I check the water and it seams to building pressure in stead of going down. I want to get it so I can drive it a little bit and then start flushing the cooling system.
What do you mean by building pressure? If you leave the cap off it will not build pressure. To flush the system out, I usually remove the T-Stat to get the fluid circulating right away. This keeps you from having to wait for it to warm up to move the fluid.
I would remove the t-stat if you only have water in there then it can circulate with out having to warm up. It could be stuck I guess how long was it apart with no water in the engine?
If it was me I would remove the stat like Ken suggested fill it with water and go from there. When everything is good I would put a new thermostat in it when you put the coolant and distilled water in it.
You could also just take the cap off the degas bottle and let it warm up and circulate. Then check your hoses and see if they are getting warmed up to verify if the stat is open or not. Just my .02
