I was going to order a chip from DP tuner this week and can't make up my mind which one. There is the F5, 6 and 8. There isn't much info on the big differences in them on the site so I thought I'd ask you all that use them.
I have a 4 inch exhaust already, tymar intake, putting on a 17 degree HPOP next week that I hope will keep up with the oil demands and sometime this summer sending my stock injectors to rosewood for rebuilding to stage 1. I'd do it right now if I didn't have so many high priority things to fix first. It sucks being broke!
Anyway, I really need a chip I know. I'm sick of wasting fuel and struggling over mountains. I want the ability to install custom tunes later, like when I put he stage 1's in. I'd love to be able to tweek the programs myself but I don't think anyone offers that for their chips.
Can any of you using dp tuner chips tell me which one to get?
I'm looking at getting the 20, 40 and 60 horse tow tune, 60 horse econo tune, stock and no start. I'm not a race car driver so don't have any use for the other ones I don't think. I already have a high idle switch too.
dump your DIY high idle and just get that and a few tunes.
I use 2 tunes while driving and 2 for idle.
Most of my chip is a waste.
The high and low idle are great for me.
Smoke was worthless, so waste.
I drive on my 80 HP tune, and use my 100 HP tune in the city.
Rarely do i use my 140 tune, belches to much smoke. I'd rather keep my oil clean.
All the options are great when you first get it casue its like a new phone.
Then after a while you rarely touch the ****.
I don't think his high idle tune will do what mine does. I can set it at 1500 in low 1 and I get out and walk next to it throwing hay bales in the bed. I can also fine tune it for PTO work. I have a hydraulic pump on mine and use it for transporting farm equipment mostly. That's a handy thing to have. Which chip should I get though? That is my biggest question. And I'm going to mount the switcher on my console between the seats. I got an airplane switchboard going on there with gauges and switches.
I'm pretty sure he can set the high idle to whatever he wants...
Secondly...You should be aware that every time you send a DP chip back, its going to cost you to reburn unlike just about every other tuner who do free reburns...
Thirdly...Most people actually get better mileage in a higher horsepower tune like 100 or 140. As long as you drive the same. For example, i use my 100 hp tune over my economy tune.
Lastly...If you're happy with paying a reburn fee, I would go with the F8. It is the newest one and can be burned by other tuners later on if you so choose.
Yeah, its like 50 for a reburn and 10 dollars a tune from DP i think was what i saw the other day.
with the higher HP settings, it doesn't really dump fuel till you give it some pedal.
And i know you were talking about getting some bigger sticks.
so..
Something to think about.
I like my PHP tunes, but PHP's support is just crap, which hurts guys like Jim who distribute for them.
I forgot about that with the idle settings. Good deal on that.
Sounds like you should just order a TW chip and use the **** instead of the DP switcher deal.
Though the bigger DP set is sweet cause I think it comes with AE.
Talk to Jim at Rosewood, he will set you up for what you have now and what you are planning to do in the future. He is a nice guy to talk to and we talked about a couple of different options for where I am now and what I want to do in the future, so unless I deviate from my plan I won't have to send my chip in for a re-burn for a few years.
I just got a chip from him last week so when I return from a work trip I will get it installed, I hope.
Talk to Jim, Talk to TW, call up any of these guys....Swamps, Beans, Elite, Gearhead, DI, Tyrant, ETC. There are many guys out there that can do what you want. I'm not saying DP is a bad choice, I'm just saying there are plenty of options. Also, you can get your chip burned for stage 1 injectors even though you still have stockers in there. Just tell the tuner that's what you plan to do. It can be done.
I didn't know rosewood sold chips too. I like him. He's gonna be doing my injectors as soon as I got the cash.
If someone shows up here tomorrow to buy my hay baler then I'm calling him on Monday!
I'd get the f8. I want to because I'm gonna build up my truck. It's a whole lot easier to upload a tune then pull the chip everytime. I like my PHP that I have now. Runs great and a good improvement and drivability. And Jim has them for a great price as well.
I'd call and talk with them at DP Tuner if you have specifics you want to know about their stuff. If you leave a message they will call back asap. Or email your questions and they will respond back asap.
From my experience, I have the F5 (sitting here from long ago) and it's a really nice digital chip switch, can hold 16 tunes, etc. Easy to change tunes, really cutting edge compared to what's out there. I hated it at first, but I grew to like it and got used to it.
Not at all familiar with the F6.
The F8 is really cutting edge, too. Tiny little chip, can hold 8 tunes, and has traditional rotary ****. As mentioned, others that have purchased the F8 and Desitny burner can re-burn your F8. The biggest advantage I think with the F8 is if you got the burner all you do is plug a laptop right into the chip cord and re-burn, you don't even take the chip out of the truck.
The F5 and F6 must be sent back only to DPT for reburning.
Of course I can set you up with a PHP chip, but your thread was asking about DPT and I don't want to try to talk you away from them.
I thought about the PHP chip. Honestly at this point I'm ready to do just whatever you tell me. If you think it will meet my needs to towing and for fuel economy without frying anything then it's fine.
I just noticed the HPOP you have on your site too and I think I want one. NICE price on it. That looks like it would be perfect with the stage 1's you're gonna do for me. Now if you sell intercoolers too I'll just get everything from you. I got my heart set on the banks I think because I just don't have the time to fab up something right now. I've put those on before and they are easy.
Hopefully tomorrow this guy will get up here from El Paso and buy my hay baler then we're gonna do some business!
