PROBLEM --- in the morning when i start her up it fires without a blink. then after about 7 to 10 min it shuts off and it will take a good 10 min to fire her back up. she just cranks and cranks and won't start up. there is fuel i have see thru fuel filter and can smell the gas. any help please?
this ignition set up is about 10 yrs old, and carb/manifold is aout 1.5 years old.
Mine, a couple of years ago, was doing something real close to what yours is doing. What dist are you using? I had an older Mallory Unilite and after that a MSD.
My truck is older (1971) so I am not sure if your wiring is the same or not. My problem was caused by not getting 12v to the distributor and coil. It took ten years before the Mallory acted up. I blamed it on the dist so I bought a MSD dist, I burned it up twice in a matter of months. I found a resistor wire that ran off the ignition to the dist. It only passed 10v to the dist not 12v like dist manufactors required.
Check to see if your ignition and dist require 12v or not. If they do check to see if the wire from the ignition to the distributor and coil is delivering 12v.
If you are still running the factory dist you might want to get it tested. The pickup could be going because of age.
This may not be your problem but it sounds real close to what I had and it is something to double check and held narrow the odds. Good Luck.
