Better inline six?

i have a 1994 f-150 with 300 inline six, it gets 13 miles to the gallon and the engine runs very smooth, but i was looking for advice with gear or even tranny swap for less rpms on the interstate any ideas ?

Give us some specs on your rig. Tire size, gearing, driving style, towing, etc...

I also have a 94 f-150 auto I6. I get about the same mileage but i A) have over sized tires B) haul *** everywhere and C) need to clean my injectors, replace fuel filter, air filter and oil change which should improve the mileage sum. People tell me to take the big tires off and i tell them where to go. If i can drive a V8 it might as well look like i am, my ride looks like it is carrying a 460 as a 3/4 ton

Better inline six?

lower rearend gears or larger (diameter) tires will get you lower rpms but I've been dissapointed in the past with net change in mpg's. Which are you after... lower rpms or better mpgs?( I know... "BOTH - BOSS"....) For mpgs, I'd suggest starting under the hood instead of the body. Need to know your specs (dif. gear ratio, tranny and tire size) for the rpm changes

Better inline six?

I have a 1988 F-150 XLT Lariat, 4.9, AOD, 3.55 gears, short bed and I get right around 20 MPG on the highway and 17-18 city driving. I have the standard size 235x15 tires on it.

i have standard size tires i have axel code 19 whick i believe is 3.55's i have manual 5 speed tranny i am looking for lower rpms, which hopefully could result in better mileage but i really want better gas mileage and maybe more horsepower under the hood to pull the gears if a gear change is a good i deaa
