Return line or lines routing

On my 93 F-250 I was working on the tank selector valve today and realized that there are two return lines coming from the front of the truck, but only one is hooked up and it goes to the front tank. The other is not hooked up because the P/O bypassed the valve and ran a direct line from the front tank. My question is, where does the other return line coming into the selector valve connect to? He had the valve bypassed becuase the valve did not work but I fixed it today (broken wire) and want to have everything back to original. Both supply lines are present and attached. Both return lines between the valve and fuel tanks are present and attached. The front tank return line between the front of the truck and the valve is present and attached. Leaving the rear tank return line between the front of the truck and the valve present at the valve but unattached to front of truck. Is there supposed to be a Y in the return line coming from the engine or something else. Any help much appreciated. Thanks

the return line should go into the fuel tank selector, then top goes to the front tank, bottom bottom goes to the rear. so when your running the rear tank, the return fuel gets diverted to the tank your pulling from. if not, then you could and will over fill your other tank.

The two lines between the valve and the tanks are both connected. I have two inlet locations on the selector valve that are labled return inlet. The inlet that is for the front tank is attached to the return line that is coming from the fuel rail. The inlet line for the rear tank has about two feet of line coming out of it and heading towards the front of the truck bur it is not attached to anything. It looks like there should be two lines coming from the fuel rail and 1 line attached to the inlet of the valve but like I say there is only 1 line coming from the front of the truck. I hope you can understand my description.

there's 1 supply and 1 return going forward, 1 of each to the front tank and 1 of each for the rear

Well then, where in the heck does that other line go? Should there be a Y before the valve so it can go to whichever tank is being used?

it's all built into the selector. There's 6 ports on it. Fuel supply and return for the engine then when the switch is flipped it is supply and return between the two tanks. I'll post pics later when I go out to the shop
