I have seen posts about jag suspensions and also saw on about using C10. Was not able to find them again to find out what years to use. Anyone have pictures of these installed?
Pappy, try the "search this thread" feature at the top of the page. Lot's of info available. You can check my gallery, 49willards, and 48 steels, amoung several others for pictures of a jag install.
Here's an excerpt I saved from a Jag suspension thread...don't remember who posted it.
Late 70s to early 90s (up to 94 at least) XJ6 or XJ12 from the mid 80's up to 87 or an XJS up to the early 90's.
The XJ6 and XJ12 do NOT have upper shock mounts on the crossmember.......so when you swap them you will need to fabricate/fit a shock mount. The XJ6 has softer springs than the XJ12.
The Jag bolt pattern is early chevy with a 4 3/4' bolt circle -5 studs
The jag front ends are rugged and if you buy a good one no rebuilding may be required. Jag owners usually took better care of their cars.
You want a Series 2 or preferably series 3 1976-1986 or 87.
Rebuild parts are more expensive than most "domestic" products, probably the same there. But the front end swap is so much simpler than a chassis graft it pays for it self in less stress.
To give anyone out there considering the XJ front end, I offer the following approximate measurements when looking at oil pan clearance. The rear of the jag rack is about 7 inches to the rear of the wheel axle centerline as mounted on the jag crossmember. The top of the jag rack sits about 3 inches lower than the horizontal surface where you would mount the jag cross member to the bottom of the frame rail if you mounted it right against the bottom of the frame rail (to get the lowest practical front stance). For the record, for anyone considering the Chevy small block, I believe that it will clear readily with the motor in the "normal" location.
Pappy, mine is an 83 or 84 from an XJ6. If you find an XJS it has a bigger sway bar. As Vern said, you do have to fab upper shock mounts. Pics in my gallery show how I did it, welding the mounts to the frame and using a jag shock. I saw pics some where, here or on the hamb, of a better solution. I think it was one of our Aussie brothers that posted it, they're the experts on these front ends. The shock mount was welded to the upper spring bucket, with the shock still running inside the upper control arm. It looked like they used a shorter shock, easy enough to find, and it's a cleaner solution than I fabbed.
my jag ifs is a 79 xj6 and I got it welded to the frame. Not quite done with it yet but I like what I see. I got a couple gussets I am gonna weld in on each side and then the shock mounts

if you click on my name and go to public profile, on the right side you will see access to my albums. I have quite a few pics in there. I am nowhere close to complete at this time but my pics reflect kinda the stage I am at.
got any questions just ask away!
