Follows are some general recommendations:
· Get an Oasis report and CarFax report - if either points to a history of mechanical problems walk away
· Check for coolant puking
· Look for a truck with no aftermarket performance modifications
· Try to find out as much as possible about the routine maintenance and compare the history to the Ford recommendations - routine maintenance is the key to long term reliability
· Check out post #22 of the following thread: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/87...uy-6-oh-2.html
Beg, borrow or steal a gauge (insight, scangauge, etc.) that plugs into the OBD II port. Get er good and warm (ect ~ 190) and run er down a level patch of highway for several miles. Check the eot vs. ect. If eot is greater than 15 degrees above the ect the oil cooler and maybe the egr cooler are toast. Walk, have them replace both, or knock off ~ $3K and do it yurself. Plenty of help here for the last option.
