hello, my service van, a 97 e150 with a v6 is blowing oil smoke on start up and is starting to use antifreeze. the engine was changed before i bought it and don't know the year or any details about it. i would like to keep the van due to everything else is beef up and works fine. what would be my best route, rebuild, jasper, or will anything else bolt up to the tranny and fit. thank you for any advice. john
John,
If the engine is still running good, but loosing coolant and smoking, I'd have it checked for leaking lower intake gaskets, and especially since you don't know the history, a bad head gasket and maybe something else non-catastrophic.
A minor "rebuild" might be all you need.
I have no personal experience, but I have been told the re-man engines sold by Advance Auto are pretty good if you have to go the replacement route.
