Does anyone know how compatible a fuel pump assembly from a 2001 shortbed 6.8 is with a 6.8 longbed? Are the pumps the same but the senders are different? Two different Ford parts counters wouldn't give me the time of day, other than a dismissive "No. Next!".
I just checked my Haynes manual, and the 99-01 gas motors use the same fuel pressure at the fuel rail, so I'm thinking that, if the plug for the pump harness is the same, the 5.4 pump should work in the 6.8.
What I'm toying with here is that I'd like to try fitting a longbed tank in my shortbed truck. Looking underneath, the space appears to be there. I have access to someone parting out a 2000 f350 longbed that had the 5.4, so I'm thinking of buying the pump, tank, skid plate, and straps and trying it out.
