Caliper Grease Question
I recently replaced my front brakes and afterwards noticed that when the front end is up on jack stands that the drivers side (left) front tire seems like it halfway locked up. I can turn it with one hand but not very much. The passenger side (right) front tire easily makes a complete revolution with a one hand spin. I thought that the new caliper I bought might have been sticking so I replaced it. Still have the problem. My alignment is bad as well as my axle pivot bushings and radius arm bushings. I was about to take it to the shop to get those fixed when I found this problem. The shop does not do brake work, so I figured I should get this fixed first, so that when they do the alignment it won't be a problem. (Does it matter?)
I've done searches and found many threads that may apply to me. One of them mentions caliper grease, is this the brake quiet anti rattle gel you put on the metal side of the pad where the piston touches it or is it grease to put along the channel that the inside pad (piston side) moves in? Also, I can wedge a screwdriver between the rotor and the caliper piston to make it travel back and it allows the rotor to spin freely until I apply the brakes the next time. I did not know about the do-wha-dilly on the proportioning valve that your supposed to pull out when bleeding brakes, so I need to see if I have that. So I may have not bled the brakes properly. Would that cause this problem?
Thanks for looking! -John
