hello ,
im new to this forum as a member, but ive gathered a few solutions here.
I have a 1997 f150 xlt 4.6L v8 4x4 that will not pass pa emmisions.
so far ive fixed egr system . mis fire on #8. and my current problem is one that i cannot seem to find a solution to.
my last trip to the emmisions station was a heart breaker.
the pa emmisions machine reported to me that i have a faulty check engine light. the light never came on yet i was loaded with codes.
they didnt give me a code for this problem either. with the key in run at start up, no ce light. can anyone help with this problem?
dash is taken apart light bulbs checked all ok. i switched out the ce bulb and its fine. any ideas on how to trouble shoot this mess?
If the bulb and socket in the back of the cluster are good, I would look real closely at the circuit on the back of the cluster and find which wire in the harness turns on that bulb. It may be that someone has messed with that in the past. I suppose the ECU itself could also be malfunctioning. If you have access to a scan tool, see what it says the MIL status is. Does the truck seem to be running normally?
thankyou for your consideration. you are right . a problem component on the circuit board. i found a faulty resister, replaced it and now it works.
the electronics education i had in the past actually helped. it cost $0.79 to fix + my time a lot less than $150.00 for a used cluster + fords programing
