Upgrade Path?

I've tried searching and found a ton of info, but need to put it all together on the upgrades I want to do. I just picked up a 2005 Excursion with the 6.0. It's a daily driver so my goals are to bump up the power but nothing too extreme. I use it for towing over 6k once in a while, but not often. Smaller 4-5k boat gets towed on a regular basis.

Planned upgrades:
- MBRP 4" Turbo back with test pipe
- SCT x3 with Innovative tunes
- Updated fuel pressure regulator spring
- Powermax turbo

Down the road:
- Studs

Long time from now:
- Regulated return
- AirDog 2
- 155cc injectors

I am NOT studded. I'd love to do it, but that is a big job I just don't have time for on the family hauler right now. Would I see much difference with the Powermax? I know I wouldn't be taking full advantage of it. Or would I need to get studs and/or fuel system upgrades to take advantage of the Powermax? Just for reference, I'll be taking care of the Oil/EGR coolers, gauges and a few other updates now.

Start with gauges like Edge Insight CTS, a fuel pressure gauge & EGT probe for the Edge.
Then when you make changes like exhaust & fuel spring, you can see the differance.
Dont change the air intake, just replace the Donaldson air filter element.

I repeat what GIGGER said, first you have to know what the engine is doing. Without gauges you are flying blind. The only Ford dash gauges that actually show what is happening are the fuel and boost pressure. The others are just idiot lights, when they see a voltage they go to half scale. By the time they read something else it is too late.

Sorry guys, I didn't phrase that well. I'll be doing gauges, EGR/oil coolers and other updates right away.

Get any kind of Edge Insight used or new for gauges. Head studs will take a weekend. Try your best to get that done. I suggest that before you put the money towards the powermax.

Since you are not towing big. I suggest getting Xstreet, Street. You can tow up to 10,000 lbs with street. Have Eric creat a second street tune with high up shift and down shift points with exahsut brake.

EGR Delete or modify it so you can compy with emission. Look at my "Up-pipe" link for modifying the egr systm.

Yeah, I hear ya on the studs. But I've never pulled heads on something this big before. Most I've done is the heads on a carburated 351, mounted in a ski boat. Tons of room, simple engine and no electronics...a little different than this beast. I'll get them done at some point, but I'm hoping to find someone who wants to help.

What state are you in? You may get away with an egr delete.

Not really needed.

I still have a functioning EGR system(original one) using 155 injectors and a 64mm turbo.

Add a coolant filter when you do the oil cooler...and guages are a must in my opinion!
