Is there a guideline to use for understanding my ECT? I read a lot of posts on here that users have ECT's running around 190. I have an 06 with 116K miles and new EGR and oil coolers, coolant system flushed and coolant filter clean last two changes. The T-stat was new (OEM) and I run 197 when fully warmed up. Is this normal, what is the degree rating on the 6.0 t-stat.
The thermostat should be 192-195, 197 is a little above what it should be but not a temp I would complain about or worry about. Just keep an eye on it.
To 8lug, If those temps are with the engine warmed up then you have a faulty t-stat. The stock t-stats are not fully opened til around 204. 197 is perfectly acceptable.
To the OP, whats the temperature outside when you see these ECT temps? On a cold day 0-20 degrees, my truck will reach 185 or so. On a warm day, 40 degree + itll reach 195. Thats after 15 mins of driving..
I live in Florida, outside temp is 70ish this time of year, but I am thinking in the dead of summer at 85-90 I am going to see ECT well above 210 I am sure.
My ECT will span a 40 degree range, depending on the weather, my driving speed, how much I'm hauling/towing, etc. Temps of 210 F are fine if you're towing.

Towing my TT my temps have spiked to 228f. My oil always runs 5-7* warmer than my coolant, when working the truck hard. I got stuck in the snow and Ice this weekend, and admittingly, was being pretty hard on the truck, and saw in the 230's, than I remembered I had my rad blocked off, pulled the cardboard, and went back down to around 220.
O right now empty I am runnin from 179-196*f and my oil is within a few degrees of that! It has been in the teens here though, till tonight!
