I've had my 2010 Platinum for over one year now and at 25000 miles I decided to replace a couple of things that needed looking after. My maintenance schedule is a regular 5000 inspection, Mobile One 5W-20 oil change with a Motorcraft oil filter, tire rotation and balance if necessary. I peek at the air filter, clean the engine bay and clean the entire truck. I do this for a living and it is just part of a day for me. Something I enjoy doing to my own vehicle when it needs it. Well, I somehow missed the 15000 air filter change recommendation ( I am accustomed to 30000 mile intervals) anyway I've been looking at the filter and it looked used but pretty serviceable so I was not worried. I decided that I'd just change the filter with a "Factory Ford Part" and while I was at it I ordered a new set of wiper blades from my Ford dealer.
The wiper blades have been the best I have ever had on a car. 25000 New England miles and not a smear, tear or anything wrong at all. They where perfect but we're about to drive to Florida and I wanted new ones....
Imagine my surprise when the new Motorcraft filter and wiper blades where cheep copies of the originals. The air filter was 1/2 the thickness, had a thinner metal screen and was a disappointment. The wiper blades where another brand entirely and did not even have the same offset! They did have big ugly white block lettering on them advertising Motorcraft though.
I returned both and bought a Napa Gold air filter and a set of Bosch Icon blades. At least the air filter was the same size!
Bummer Ford! At least give us what you built into the truck when it was new!
Ford released a new air filter as replacement from the original. The new filter is going into all new vehicles.
With the wiper blades, it is a dealer stock issue. If the dealership stocked blades for every vehicle type for current and past models (say 10 years), there would be literally 100's of types of blades needed. So what Ford does is release the closest blade as OEM for service. Some models are better than others.
You're going to love those Bosch Icon blades. I have them on my '06 SCrew and the wife's Civic. My parents also run them on their two fine Japanese machinery. Great purchase. Mine see mud, ice, snow, and anything else VA weather can throw at them.
If you guys want truly durable streak free wiper blades I suggest you spring the $ for PIAA silicone blades. Ive used about every brand of blade out there and I'm very picky about any sign of streaks or smearing. I replace most brands within 5-8 months but I regularly get anywhere from 16-20 months out of a set of the PIAA's. Just my 2 cents but they are the best I have ever used. I don't like the flexy non frame blades because they have a tendency to slap against my windshield on my Ranger. I know its not a new body F150 but a wiper blade's quality knows no difference in model.
I have used Icon's before. They are the best I have seen, although I'll admit I haven't seen the Piaa blades yet. I was just disappointed that I couldn't replace the stock blades with more just like them, and that air filter....

I would put the Trico Neoform in the same category as the Bosch Icons. I really like the solid beam; they work great. I haven't done the air filter on mine yet.
