I was at the dealer today getting my truck serviced, every truck I saw with 18's had continentals on them, a few of the more basic trucks like mine had generals on them 17" and if the truck as an fx 4 they had a bfg all terrain on them not the AT ko's. the trucks with 20's all had michelins.
as for tires. for our trucks depending on what you do I just don't see how there is a better tire than the bfg at ko's I have run them hard on 2 previous trucks the last with similar torque levels to this new truck, they wear evenly, don't vibrate even when worn out and have pretty darn good traction in most conditions. I drive the back roads of the high deserts and I find them to be great tires. yeah they wear a bit faster than a highway thread michelin probably 20% faster but I will trade that for better grip. after about 8 sets and never a problem with any tire I will not buy anything else.
check out me taking off the last bit of tread on a set of BFG
The 18" wheels come with the Conti's. I have them on mine and will try not to complain too much. 8k miles on them and still looking ok. They don't have very good traction off highway, but are okay on pavement. Thay are starting to get a bit louder now as the miles accrue. Will be changing out for the BFG AT's when ready.
The new BFG AT KO tires I just put on a few weeks ago performed very well in the snow. I've had them before... not 8 sets like the mr. cummins has... but a couple . Never had any problems with them on those trucks, but they had nothing like the power that this one does. It's good to hear about good experience with longevity on high-torque trucks!
The Michelin LTX A/T2 18" came on my truck. They are decent and rate pretty well on the Tire Rack survey. I was worried I was going to get the Continental's which everyone says sucks. I did some research and the Goodyear DuraTrac's seemed to be the best option if I need to replace the Michelin's. We will see how the Michelin's hold up in the rocks on my 4x4 driveway this summer. I have Goodyear MTR's on my previous truck which were great in the rocks, deep snow and wet, but not too good on the ice. The MTR's were very loud.
I have Michelin LTX/2's on my truck. They've wore fine. Michelin and Sears gave them for replacement on the Michelin AT/2's I had on my 08 6.4 which tore up the Michelins AT/2's. So Torque and our 6.7's have nothing to do with tearing up AT/2's. Unless you put the 6.4 in the same league.
I wish I had the Conti tires that came on the 2011 truck. I made a big mistake on swapping over my LTX/2's. Between the charge for mounting my old tires and the AT fee on the order. The Conti's had so much more tread on them and with good tread design for what I need. I wasted lot's of money. I didn't realize this until I dropped the spare tire to undercoat when I got it home and saw the comparision to the LTX/2's.
Michelin has changed the design of the LTX and AT and both have less tread and less aggressive design. The Conti's AT have more thread new.
I don't know what you mean by LTX/2 versus AT/2. According to michelin.com, there are 5 versions of the LTX tire:
LTX A/S
LTX A/T2
LTX M/S
LTX M/S2
LTX Winter
There is no LTX/2, according to Michelin.
I do put the 6.4 in the same category - too much torque for these tires. My Tundra didn't tear them up, but it only had 400 lb/ft of torque. I think any gas engine is going to be fine... but most diesels are going to be very rough on them.
My truck came with the 20" Michelins, The specs say they have a 17/32 tread depth. At 5000 miles when I got the oil changed and tires rotated, They had 11/32 of tread. (35% worn) I just rotated again at 12,000 miles and they are now down to 7/32 of tread. (58% worn) Based upon that kind of wear they will be gone by 18,000 miles Maybe 20,000 at the most.
I've owned 3 other Superduty trucks in past years. I've put 300,000 on those trucks. So I've bought a few sets of tires over the years. Granted the older Superduties don't have the same hp or torque as our current 2011, But they pulled the same loads, carried the weight. The previous trucks had the 18" rims and always came with the Conti's, I had replaced them with Toyo's most of the time. I always averaged about 28,000 miles per set of tires with the loads and driving that I do.
So No, I'm not impressed with the wear on the Michelins.
There are very few tires that offer any kind of tread life warranty on tires in the size that fits our trucks. So don't waste a lot of time trying to find such warranty.

F250 KR
20" Michelins
22,512 miles and still over 59% tread left. Maybe I'm just lucky?
But seriously, I am looking for a mud traction tire to replace these with. Just been so dry here that I've been in no rush.
