I haven't seen a combination of the two, but what about some replacement headrest dvd players (in lieu of cutting into your factory ones)? The Ford factory ones are made by Invision (which is owned by Audiovox). Audiovox has some pretty nice ones as well.
I was seriously considering adding a set of dvd headrest and was ready to pull the trigger but the shop surprisingly never called me back. I think it was a sign not to get 'em! lol. Anyways, I think I'm going to go with another iPad and a Vibe tablet (Windows 7). I can turn my phone into a hotspot so the kids can surf the internet or whatever. Also have a netbook with a ton of movies/cartoons on it which I can transfer to either one pretty quickly. I have 4 kids ranging from 1 to 13 so in car entertainment is a must for my blood pressure.
I have the one piece leather seats in my truck so the head rest thing is out unless I want to cut into them.
i like the net book idea that might work. I have seen one truck with a sunroof and overhead dvd but did not get a good look as we were just beside each other at the lights.
I need to do a bit more searching for a console mount. Someone must make something for the superdutys other than the head rest option.???
I have seen some that attach to the arm rests. Look around on eBay to get an idea of what I mean. I don't have them but recall seeing that option when recently looking at screens.
Ahh, forgot about the 1 piece seats (that's how my 2000 was).
I don't know if there would be enough room behind the sunroof that would allow a mounting plate. You could pull the headliner and check it out.
Anything can be made, you could get something custom done by a local shop. Like I mentioned, I really wanted the headrests initially but after thinking about it a while, it's one less thing to entice thieves with. I'd rather just tell the kids to bring their entertainment and add an inverter to charge while they're watching.
I just posted this on another guys topic but here ya go.
Could always go this route. Really not to tough to do. I'm thinking about making a guide on how to do it since I took pictures along the way. t was done using the Rosen Entertainment DVD system but any system will do.
These ones were done a 2010 F450 King Ranch. I did it right in the dealership parking lot. Customers and sales guys would come out and couldn't believe I was cutting into the King Ranch leather...lol His problem was the same as yours. He had a sunroof and didn't want to have a rear view mirror blocked with a monitor hanging down in the way.
Wow that looks great I just don't have ***** to cut into my seats.
I have since found a couple options that attach to the center console but they look kind of cheap.
Was that your truck in the pic or just a customers?
Wasn't too hard to take the covers off. I did this while it was just starting to get cool out so I let the truck run with the heat on high for a bit to warm up the interior. The battle is really getting the clasp apart that fastens the seat cover together at the bottom of the seat back. I use a hook tool to get in there and break the clasp apart at one end and pull it apart. It will make sense when you look at it.
I left about maybe a half inch of leather at the monitor bezel cup so that it would stretch and hold the leather in place when the monitor was snapped in.
