Center Console Removal?

I have been searching the site and have not seen anyone that has removed the center console from the 2011? Maybe I need to search the super duty forum?

I ordered the USB2 cable and want to route it up through and into the large box on the console so I can hide and lock my ipod in the truck. Has anyone done this or seen a thread about this?

I was going to ask the same question today. I need to run cables for my company radio in there and I don't have a clue how that's gonna work. Somebody help two brothers out.

You know there is a notch in the front right corner where cable can be routed and still allows the lid to be closed?

Also, you can remove all the cupholders and drill a hole down in the bottom to route cable.

It's likely that if you want to remove the center console, you'll have to remove the passenger seat and unbolt the driver seat.

On my 08, the 2 front console brackets share the mounting points with the right front drivers seat bracket and the left front passenger seat bracket. Not the full console on the 08 but I think the mounting is similar on the 11s.

Just to clarify my post - I don't really need to remove the whole console, I have been trying to get the large cup holder top piece to come out (after removing the actual pull out cup holders), but can't figure out what the clip situation is and I do not want to damage it trying to pry it out. I figure that if I can get that out, I can route the wires and install a female USB on the front wall of the large cavern. That way I will have a second USB port inside the locking storage space. I also want to install an LED light in there to work off of the upfitter switches.

Are there any current techs out there that have the 2011 service manual? Any stereo guys that have done this yet?

Once I figure this out, I will write it up and take pics so there is a process on the forum going forward.

My plan is to drill a hole in the corner of the box and use fish tape to the the wires through there. Anybody know if there is anything below the box I should not hit?

Isn't there a secound USB port on the module behind the glovebox liner? That way you could use the unused port and leave Ipod in glove box.

Yes, that is where I will pull the cable from, but it is tough to access the ipod on the other side of the truck and the center console locks which is a nice feature. Hell, maybe the glove box locks too, I just picked my rig up this weekend and haven't had time to get through the whole truck yet! And I am already wanting to add things...

Bumping this thread to see if anyone has figured out how to remove the front armrest center console, or the center console internals? I am looking to a make a ~ 1" x 3" cut into the main center console compartment to ultimately route a second USB cable and mount a face plate.

I would like to be able to remove the main part of the center console without destroying anything to be able to look behind the section I would like to cut into. Without removing the console section, I fear cutting a cable or ??? without knowing what is behind the section I want to cut into. Besides, it will be much easier to cut with it removed vs installed.

Any ideas? Thx

I assume you are referencing this thread?

TDS - Factory OEM Navigation install

I see where it is mentioned but no details exist. I will bring up a mention and see if he has some good info he could list.

Other, I am looking on Ford Parts exploded view of the console but the diagram is small and doesn't provide a good level of detail where I can determine what panels can pop out without damage. I am wary of pulling on panels and such too much as I could easily break something. And the price to replace the entire console $740. Although most likely a single part would be much less, but why buy something when you can avoid breaking it.

Thnx.

If anyone has done this, post up as I am still attempting to gather the info. When I do get it out, I will hopefully be able to give accurate instructions if it is still widely unknown. Pics too, hopefully?

console removal

I too would like input from anyone who has done this. I want to run cables under the console to mount a strobe power supply under the rear seat. I also want to mount a fused distribution block in the secret cubby under the cup holders. Is there anyway to remove the inner buckets without removing the whole console? Any input would be grand!

console removal '11 super duty

For those interested;

First the two obvious bolts are on the left and right of the console covered by two round plastic covers.

I quickly played and found that the front cup holder can be removed by opening the console and prying up on the lip. The whole top piece comes off revealing two bolts in the front.

Close the lid and pry up on the rear cup holder which also just pops off.

This then allows you to pop the rear of the console off which provides access under the console. (BTW; there is a module under the main storage are of the console......don't drill)

It appears that it is bolted in the rear to the same place as the front seats.
