Turbo failed Ford test

I have a 2005 F250, 119000 miles, Weeks old to me. Truck ran great for 10 days. Then I lost turbo pressure. Pulled and cleaned the turbo (not really bad). Pulled and cleaned egr valve. Now, Boost might get to 8psi and has poor performance. I think the vanes are just sitting where they were when I put her back together. A Ford mechanic brought his laptop to the house, ran it thru diagnostics; egr, sensors, all passed but the turbo test. He was thinking pitted center section was causing the sticking. I felt like the thing was fine. I pulled the turbo out again today to carry to him to look at and noticed..... there was no oil in the center section. hmmm. I mean I can put my lips to it and blow thru with no resistance. The braided line is clear.
I know with no oil for the vgt solenoid to push ,the vanes do not open and I have no boost. hmmmmm. How can the center be oil-less and yet I have the oil pressure to crank and operate my injectors?

That shouldn't happen, did you check your turbo feed line to see if it was clogged? Than can get coked up with burnt oil and clog.

If you disconnect the batteries and put your headlights on then connect the batteries your turbo will go into a re-learn cycle.

Yes, I pulled the braided line, it is clear as a whistle. This time when I pulled the line from the turbo, there was no oil sitting above the vgt in the center. I said hmmm. Then I pulled the turbo off, no oil drained out and I could blow thru it like a whistle. A week ago when I pulled the turbo to clean it, there was oil present here. Also when I initially cleaned the turbo, the turbo, egr and what I could see of the cooler was really in decent shape with light soot only. I am concerned the oil cooler may be clogged, in a pre-rupture state.
This, I did not know: If you disconnect the batteries and put your headlights on then connect the batteries your turbo will go into a re-learn cycle.

Will do. I was afraid to give my wifes pretty white truck a 1500 psi oil bath.

maw cranking will only net about 30 psi on the low side. make sure to pull the ficm relay so it wont start while you are doing that.

If your oil cooler is clogged the oil will still flow or should still flow since it is the antifreeze side that is known to clog up.

Thats true one can in theory plug anything liquid or air travels through, but talk about catastrophic failure if the oil stopped flowing while the turbo was spun up!

Guys, I have some direction now from a local mechanic. This is the fourth Ford mechanic I have talked with and he sounds like the most experienced. He is also the first local that didn't just "suggest" I change out the center section of the turbo. I'm going to look at some of the things he suggested tomorrow and will post results. If you guys are interested in some of the things he told me, I will post those tomorrow as well. Thank you guys for your input!

Always interested in hearing what experienced people have to say about engines turbos etc and learning what the outcome of other peoples situations are.

Good luck!
