Does anyone know if fuel is supposed to stay in the secondary filter housing on top of the motor or should it drain back down?
I dont see that there is a check valve to prevent it from draining back but would have thought that it would take some time to get past the primary pump.
You didn't mention the year of your truck, but a trap was added to the fuel supply line at some point to prevent the housing from draining back...I'm not sure if it was added in '04 or '05my, but here's a pic

Thanks for sharing! Its an 04 and doesn't have the trap.
Put a new pump in today after observing tons of air being pushed into the secondary bowl, then seeing air bubbles as the fuel slowly returned down the spply line and hearing lots of air when te pump was on.
Pressure incresed significantly but the new pump allows the fuel to immediately drain out of the bowl till bone dry. Just doesn't seem right.
Probably should have mentioned that I had some problems with the old pump and the bubbling was not occurring prior to me changing out the filter today. I think there was something worn or damaged in the cap as the last few turns were exceptionally difficult. I think I cracked the housing by cranking on it so hard. I knew there was something wrong but after 6 attempts lost some patience and then some of money over it.
