Good idea on the solenoid connector.
That thing is so out of sight, out of mind that I forget it exists.
It's also buried under my exhaust too.
Hard to get to.

I see how that is a highly likely candidate for losing gears, but not starting???

check the engine codes , they're in there. there is a way to do it with a paper clip, and count the cel flashes, that has been discused here , you'll have to do a search. I have a scanner, so I never tried it.

For the 1990 harness, I had to totally pull the truck side wiring apart and make a new weatherpack connector with a kit. They don't interchange, at least not my year model.

yeah, but not starting is definately the mlps. if you take a 8mm wrench, and remove the heat plate, you can get to the sol pk plug a lot easier. but it still bites your arm on the cat

I'll look it up. I have done the paperclip code check on GMs before, so I'll figure it out.

However, where can I get a code reader for a 90 EEC-IV?
Wal-Mart and the parts houses around here all stopped carrying them as "obsolete". They only sell the OBD2 versions now. They look at me like I stepped out of the stone ages when I ask for a pre-OBD2 code reader.

it goes 90-94, then 95 up. if you need the harness patch kit, call DACCO, at 1-800-443-2226,, they can also help guied you in the right direction.

The MLPS will not stop the spark.
Before going deeper go ahead and unplug the Computer and see if spark returns.
Might be a good idea to unhook the battery before pulling the plug on the computer.
The only code that may help you would be a PIP code and that would tell if the PIP is bad.
I would forget about the transmission until you get spark back.

Can it spark without the PCM hooked up?
I figured a good PCM hooked up was a must for ignition...

The PCM is not needed for the spark but can stop it.
So after you unplug the PCM leave it unplugged until you get spark back.
It will not run without the PCM hooked up as the injectors will not fire and the fuel pump will not run.
But it will try to start if you spray starting fluid in the intake with it unplugged.
This will keep you from flooding the engine with fuel until you find out why you have no spark.

maybe because my truck is a 94 is why it wouldn't start with the wrong mlps? good to know about the PCM/spark thing. thanks

I take it you are saying that it would not crank with the wrong MLPS.
That would have nothing to do with the spark.

Crank meaning starter engagement and not meaning that the engine is running.

It was a loose wire to the transmission.

Don't even know which.
I jiggled the wires checking the connections, then had someone crank the truck.
Fired right up. Drove it, and it shifted great.
