Bought the truck smoking back 2 pass side cylinders were showing injector trouble replaced didnt fixit did a swap with the front 2 old injectors w/t back new injectors didnt fixit . It showed low compression on the back two cylinders so pulled the valves it had valve trouble on those two cylinders . So rebuilt the heads completly new valves everthing , had new set of rings put in cylinders and pistons were fine . The compression is now great no blow by . Now every thing that was causing what I thought the prob is fixed now or that it just had two weak cylinders and the prob. was w/t something other than the motor and injectors all along . The fuel driver is the computer or module that controles the injector / fuel system it is calded something else .
I would think small and then work towards larger items. How do the valve cover harnesses look? ICP? IPR? Make sure all of these electrical connections are good.
The obselete harness that plugs into the valve cover looks rough I was going to rewire it tonight ,a ford dealer did try to repair the one tha is on the truck now but did a real hack job . I dont know what the ICP IPR are I am really a carpenter by trade.
He thought he had injector trouble, so just replaced 2 injectors.
SO he has 6 bad injectors and 2 good injectors.
Found out it was a valve problem, rebuilt both heads.
which means he has removed all the injectors, thus means he probably needs to put all new o-rings on the injectors.
So, now after everything is back together, he has good compression again, and smoke out the tail pipe.
Which sounds like bad injector o-rings.
Sounded like he replaced the rings too. That could open up a whole new can of worms.
I am pretty confused by it all too. I've never replaced one or two injectors though. It's the whole set or nothing here. Pistons I have done like that but not injectors.
new o rings were put back in after the heads were rebuilt ,I was tying to save a little $ by putting just the 2 injectors in . The smoke is not oil its fuel .
It's a long shot, but since you mentioned a rough looking harness I'll say this. Check the harness pinout against the wiring diagram.
I bought my pickup from a guy that told me he spent $2000 trying to get the harness repaired at a Ford dealer and an electrical shop and it would not stop smoking. After fooling around with it for a while I figured out that when the harness end had been replaced they crossed the injector control lines, so I had two cylinders firing way out of time. Smoked like a M-F'er even though I had good compression, overhauled injectors, and mechanically everything was working great.
OK I worked on the truck last night on the pig tail that the ford dealer installed that plugs into the valve cover . They did solder the new pig tail in but had it wraped in black tape , I noticed that the color codes on the wire were not the same , so I went to my buddies house and looked at his 96 350 . It turns out that they had 2 wires crossed . There were 1,2,3,4,5 wires they had 2,4 crossed on the new pig tail , cut and soldered them back and used shrink tubing this time . No More Smoking runs perfect There was A what looked like a ground wire w/t the other 5 wires was not hooked to anything on my truck and my buddies what is this wire for ?
Good to hear you got it. Stupid ford dealer. I'm not sure what the other wire you're talking about is. That wire was in the same bundle as the vc wires?
Yes its in the same bundle but uncoated / bare wire the pig tail was a 5 pin conector so no were else for it to go . It looks like it wrapped along w/t the tin foil looking stuff that is wrapping the wires but the same gauge
