hi everyone, i usually post in the superduty section but i just picked up a 1982 bronco xlt over the weekend. it dosnt have reverse so how do i identify what transmission i have its a 4-speed manual with 4th being overdrive. thanks everyone
it might be the SROD manual. its a 3speed with 4th being Overdrive. if i recall its a horrible tranny. have you crawled under the rig looking for a tag of some sort. might also check the vin code, it might tell you more also.
i did not take delivery of the truck yet. i paid for it yesterday and will pick it up in 2 weeks the guy has to clean up his shop and pull it out. the trans is all apart as it dosnt have working revers but i wanted to try and get a used trans sitting in my garage for when i get it home. the shifter has r 1 2 3 and od. aslo if this is the one thats not very good what would you suggest? i also have the option of taking the 5-speed out of my 94 f-150
you might even consider looking for an NP435. its bulletproof and much stronger then your 94 tranny. the 94 would be an m5od and not sure how well it will hold up to your expected uses.
the zf was only mated to the 4.9 or the 5.8 from what ive found. im also under the impression that the 5.0 and 5.8 are the same block? so would the zf work in my bronco?
Yes, the ZF only came behind the 300 or the 351 because the 302 wasn't available in the F-250, 350, or 450. However, the bell housing bolt pattern is the same for all three engines. So, if you can find one, it will bolt behind your 302. Consider it a 3/4-ton component upgrade to a 1/2 ton truck.
Hey I love my Bronco's and all.. but why not pull the trailer and plow snow and run around in the super duty? Lift the Bronco and go wheelin with it man!
well were i am in pa things rust out fast. i got the bronco out of southern va and theres no rust on it anywhere, so i plan on keeping it for atleast 5 years. the superduty on the other hand i got used 3 years ago on a 5 year payment plan. Ive put alot of miles on the superduty since i got it (40,000 which puts it 100,000) and i plan on selling it around 130,000 so i can get some money back out of it so theres no sense on buying a plow now. ill still tow with it but the bigger trailer (28 foot race car trailer). but this way i can keep some miles off of it and keep it a little longer.
I had a 95 Bronco with a 351w and it did NOT like to tow my 24' camper. The wheel base is way too short. But if you're getting a good enough deal on it and you have can get used to a firm grip on the wheel you'll be fine.
