yea, easy way to tell is the divorced transfer case.

From the research i did around here the consesus was basically this...

16" rims with 35x12.5s or 315/75s are a good safe way to go.

36x12.5x16.5 (hmmwv tires) do well but may need to adjust steering stops to prevent rubbing.

There was a pic of a guy who had 40s on his stock highboy put up just a few days ago, so who knows!

if there is a driveshaft between the transmission and the transfer case like this truck...you can see the bottom part of the transfer case under the middle part of the truck. If its like that, you will be good. Im pretty sure the later 250 4x4s need to be lifted to clear 35s.

Stock height: 35s will fit a Highboy no problem and 33s will fit a stock lowboy. No rubbing on either as long as the wheels have the correct backspacing. Or just break out the sawzall, you're only limited to how much fender you want to cut out...

Hey no worries. Consensus has it that a highboy will have a divorced transfer case and about a 3-4" higher ride hight. From 73-76 most if not all have Dana 60 rear axle and Dana 44 up front with a 360FE engine usuallly with a 4speed manual transmission and NP205 transfer case. Those aren't the only years but during those thats most likely what it's going to be. The trucks termed highboys stop at 1977.5 halfway through production they made the switch. The 77.5's will have a 351m/400 engine instead of an FE. Hope this helps a bit.

You listen to Unknown's albums at all Dan? They're awesome and GD hilarious.
After I got the tat, I was informed by many fans you get into any of his shows free for life if you have an Early or Unknown tattoo... Just a bonus if it is in fact true.
