looking at an add for an escape

it's a 2005 v6 4x4, the add says it needs an engine without going into any detail. I'm waiting on a reply email from them. They want $750 (thats right), it has 140,000 Km. Worst case and the engine is toast, what can I grab another 3.0 out of with no year interchange issues?

Alright, did a bit of research and it looks like a common problem with these are coil on plugs fail leading to a rich running cylinder from a misfire. This plugs the manifold cat converter which breaks down and plugs the rear cat, typically blowing out the EGR. Symptoms are very rough running engine.

I hope this is the case, not having seen it or received a reply yet, as a 2005 for $750 is so hard to pass up if I can fix it for under $1000. I would happily drive that and sell my '08 chev minivan POS
