I know this is a notorious problem, so I already did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for, in particular anyway. So anyway, since late fall, I've had a small puddle of oil in my valley, I've procrastinated and hoped I could just wait till spring when things started drying up and I could get everything fixed all in one swat. Well, I went on a 1000 mile trip yesterday and when I got home, I parked it. Woke up and moved the truck to the wood pile to load er up with some wood to put in the cellar and there was a puddle of oil underneath it. Oil on the dip stick hasn't moved, noticeably anyway so my guess is the o ring, which I believe the problem to be, is getting much worse. Does anyone have a link to some o ring fixes? I believe its an hpo line leak, but could be the non serviceable plug or one of the other three o rings on the pump hard to tell without digging.
It could still be anything. Might still be a small leak, but over the course of your 1,000 mile trip it pooled more oil in the valley than you're used to seeing.
Could be a leaking o-ring, HPOP fitting, EBPV, or maybe just leaking oil vapor from the CCV. No real way of knowing until you clean things up and start looking for the leak.
That's a good point. She could use a good cleaning anyway. Well its leaking on my paved driveway so I've got to get it fixed. More then likely your right, it hasn't shown up on the dipstick but running it at 75 for 1000 miles caused it pool. Then parking it on a grade like it was let the pool run out the drain in the back. I did notice this morning that it romped when it first started, which it never usually does.
Very true as well. It is about time to change that filter. I'll get one ordered and change that and check things over while I change it. Though it looks like oil in the snow it could explain low fuel mileage. I was blaming it on winter blend diesel as well as a lead foot and the ebpv. That might be a cause as well.
Well I cleaned up my engine and found the leak. Its an o ring on the hpop. The line feeds the second bank, which is the one on the right if your facing it. Must only do it under a good load though, it doesn't leak while I sit there and watch it, but its very evident where its coming from.
From my experience, Bob at Diesel o-rings is great to deal with. Good customer service and takes the time to answer questions, fast shipping too. I haven't dealt with Riffraff diesel, but I've read just as many good things about them as well.

The 'cabinet Kit' is the same one from Bob or Riffraff. I think same price too. I think that the cabinet kit has every thing that you need to over haul the fuel bowl and would be a good ideal to do that while you are in there. The water drain 0-rings wear out and cause a leak that runs down into the valley.
I see, now would this o ring leak cause a hard start and the truck to romp the first five seconds of coming to life? It never did this before and I'm thinking its the cause of it but just wondering is all. Either way I'll find out after the kit gets here. Maybe the fuel bowl is leaking as well I just can't tell with the oil coming out of the hpo line. Ughh.
Dont feel bad man, I have a leak coming outta the hose behind the fuel drain valve. Where the rubber and metal hose meet. And I have a mystery oil leak as well. Its comin out near the HPOP just cant figure it out. It has a prolonged crank even when warm. It does romp 1 or 2 times once in a while when the engine is warm.

You have to have high oil pressure for the injectors to open up. if oil has leaked from the High Pressure Pump, it may take a second or two to build up oil pressure in the rails. If Fuel is leaking out of the drain valve, then the fuel pump would have to fill up the bowl and build up pressure in the fuel rails.... with this, there may be air in the fuel rail and cause a comp for the first five seconds.
