I could have sworn when I bought my truck (Gooseneck hitch already installed) that if I didnt want that GN hitch that I could buy a replacement center section for the bed and have it changed out. That was the theory in making the center section in a way it could be replaced.
That was alot of years ago and I may not be remembering right but I would check with the dealer and see if that is an option. Maybe one the Dealership parts guys that are on here could research that and see if it is possible. I know Ed would tackle that no problem but he needs to concentrate on recovery at the moment.
it is a shame you didn't post this sooner, I just took my '99 bed to the scrap yard I would have chopped you out a piece.
I might be getting another '97 that I will scrap if it is the same pattern I can get you a piece if I get the truck
I cant give you any new suggestions but I am curious. How many pounds is that hitch rated at? Mine is a "Flip Over" brand rated at 30k and they just put about a 4.5 inch hole in my bed. Just curious.
If you do not send it to pbr man, I will be more that happy to cut a hole in my bed for you and the hitch. It already has rhino lining on it. I will pay for shipping as well.

This hitch won't work for me. I am looking for a B&W turnover ball, because it will give me other options down the road. So if you want to make a deal, go for it.
Those hitches are old and outdated! That's probly why you can't find a price of bed to fit. Where are you? There's a bed by my house that's wrecked and I'm sure I could cut a chunk out for you. You would have to trim it to fit though. Anyone wanting this hitch I would stay away from it unless you plan to do minimal towing with it. Over time with alot of weight the hitch will get loose and clunk back and forth and make you nervous. The b&w hitch is the best route to take. They even offer a 5 wheel hitch that uses the same hole as the gooseneck ball. Just my .02 cents

Good info to know. Id sure like it if you could find me a piece. Id gladly send you some money for it.
As far as the weight, I cant remember. I know this, its never been towed with. I have known the original owner since he's had the truck. I just want it gone. No need for a gooseneck for me.
Oh sorry about that. I am from Delaware. Thanks for the info. Learn something new everyday. I looked at those B&W hitches and they are nice. Maybe down the road I may go that route.
