Taylor spark plug wires
Anyone used these wires on a 460? I wanted some wires that will dress up the engine bay more than just plain black wires.
Are these any good? Will I be sorry if I get them?

Ideally you want something with a 120* boot if using stock valve covers and cast manifolds.
90* will put the wire onto the exhaust manifolds or valve cover and straight boots will need too much length at the ends of the heads.
Some headers may call for these styles...
Spirocore is ok as suppression wires go. They should last longer than carbon filament wires.
What kind of coil and gap are you trying to fire through them?

The coil is round and black on the outside -
Seriously, I believe it is just a stock coil. As for the gap - are you referring the spark plug gap? If so, they are set at .044
I have run taylor wires for years. I never had issues and love the way they not only look but are put together. Only ones that would hold up to my race ignitions. (MSD 7al-2 with a HVC coil on all out race engines.) Last set I put on a 460 stroker, ran for 5yrs and sold it. same set is still on that motor 3yrs later. Granted those are NOT 8mm wires.
But I did put a set of 8mm wires on a 460 I put into a 79 F150 in 95, last time I saw the guy I sold it to he was still running them (about 4yrs ago)

If the coil is 25 years old it could definitely be better.
The Accel 140207 is a DuraSpark coil puts out 45,000V.
Pertronix and others also make them.
Depending on your build you might want to open the gap to 50 thou or more, and the DuraSpark ignition system can do that just fine up to 6500 rpm, maybe even more as long as the cap and wires are good.

I am not certain about the brand of the coil - it was just one that I got from Napa 2-3 years ago. I say stock meaning I don't think it was anything special - just a comparable stock replacement. But, maybe I should look into one that will offer a bit more performance for my application.
I am also looking to replace the ignition...maybe this would be the time to do that too.
What are the advantages of a 9mm wire vs 8mm wire? Am I correct to assume that the thicker wires will handle the voltage better and provide better throttle response?
Thanks guys...

No race engine for me - so, 8mm should do the job just fine, eh?

Rock!! Have a set on my engine that have been lighting the fire for the past 7-8yrs. They come in all sorts of cool colors so you can snazz up the engine compartment some. Im going to spring for another set to put on the 79 F-350
It needs a new set of wires pretty bad.
