Cargo Area Floor Repairs.
I have a project I need to take care of once the weather warms up a bit. The floor of the rear cargo area is rusted through in some parts and I am getting water soaking the carpet in some parts. I'm thinking of sealing the floor and then laying down new padding. The actual carpet itself seems just fine, so I really don't think it's worth replacing. But the padding is starting to leave a wet smelling odor and I don't like that. Anybody have some suggestions on how to do this project?

I'm doing something similar to another car right now; a lot of cracked metal in a trunk area that needs to be sealed some how. I plan to weld a thin-gauge steel plate over the cracks from the under side, and seal up any seams. As for the top side, I have cut a piece of vinyl coated particle board to shape to cover the area. I will make little wooden spacers to glue or screw to the underside to fill in the nooks and crannies on the floor. Maybe I'll get some heavy carpet to cover over that.
