Ford Announces New Engine Options for 2011 Ford F-150

It's in this article printed in black and white. 10,000 mile oil change interval on the 2011 F-150.

If your not comfortable with a 10K change then that's understandable but don't let the dealer or it's staff make you believe otherwise.

Gee, consistency would be nice.
To wit, after 6 months, my "oil change" light came on with only 2600 kilometers (1250 miles) registering. This, after my truck was parked for 4 months.
Assuredly, I was told by site afficionados that I better change that damn oil quick! (perhaps after two months driving and four months sitting the truck would seize up and explode, I dunno).
Well now, let's just chat about miles driven and screw the calendar.
Good luck getting a straight answer.

How are these inconsistent with the Maintenance Schedule?

Unused base oil doesn't have a shelf life at all, but the additive packages usually do. For most, that shelf life is likely more than a year. However, during combustion, all oil will end up retaining some combustion by-products, which are highly corrosive. If used oil sits in your engine for a prolonged period of time, there is a greater chance that it could accelerate internal corrosion of engine parts. Additive packages help to mitigate these issues as well as provide certain anti-wear and other performance abilities to the oil.

My guess is that the factory recommendations are probably conservative, but there is a good reason for them as well. If you're concerned, used oil analysis is probably the best way to determine the oil's current state in your engine, and how it is performing.

I just traded my 02 trailblazer (179K miles) in on a '11 xlt 5.0. The trailblazer had oil changes every 13k miles with synthetic oil. The truck still runs like new and has always used about a qt in 13k miles. The oil change light came on at about 8k miles and we just reset it. The Trailblazer had a 7 qt capacity. I will feel quite comfortable with 10k plus oil chang interval.
