I came across something I never thought I would find: A supercharger on a T/bird in the pick your parts yard! It is a nice, clean unit, and I'm wondering how to adapt it to my 4.9 inline!
I would think you could adapt a lot of superchargers to these motors. As long as they run off the the belt and could be mounted kind of like the p/steering pump.
that is an eaton m90 unit, go ahead and grab it and do some searching. alot of guys have mounted them on 302's the oiling is self contained so no oil lines are needed. do a search on youtube for eaton 5.0, or m90 5.0, or substitute 302 for 5.0. really cool stuff
yeah, on the supercoupe they draw the air in on the back of the blower, so you just mount your TB there and plump it over into the intake, preferably with an intercooler, and add some extra fuel. the hardest part is building the mount.
Dude if that is made to work on a 300 that will be a huge freaking deal! On a stock carb 300 it should have around 175-190HP 310-340TQ, and I woul think that the EFI would be around 210-230HP 320-350TQ. I wonder if any 4.2 essex truck owners have used one of these on their trucks. I can imagine one of these on a 4.2 it would be stouter than a 5.4.
There's one on youtube too. Like I always say, forced induction is a cure for small ports. I had thought about adding one to mine. The research I did, took me to the M112, and order the longest snout, and carb flanges from Magnusen. All for less than $1000 to be at or over 400hp. hmmmmm!
But what does it do to dependability, driveability? and, I hate to ask... mpg. I guess if you're thinking about a supercharger, you're not thinking about mpg. I would imagine it puts the car/truck out of the realm of daily driver? It's nice to think about, though.
I'm very surprised that in the vid he is using a V belt set up. I didn't think it would get enough traction. I know the high amp alts have to use a serpentine.
I have always heard that the B.O.P. cars with supercharged 3.8 engines will get the same or better fuel economy as long as you can keep your foot out of it. I would think drivability would get better, because you would have more power all over the place. I doubt you could make enough power without some serious engine mods to hurt durability, but you are complicating things even more under the hood so that could play a factor. The extra power outweighs any concerns except $$$$, but thats just my opinion.
Yes, that's the one I was thinking about 2tall. I would imagine hyper pistons, head studs, and good rod bolts would keep it together just fine up to a point.
