coolant smell

coolant smell

today, while out running around with the heater set to floor vents, I get a faint coolant smell in the cab, plus my windshield was fogging up. the temp gauge registered normal and there was no puddling under the truck.

any ideas?

The heater core is leaking into the plenum.

uh oh. that doesn't sound good. replacing the core will be a chore.

yep its a pain in the neck and about $1000 or more at the dealership

crap. I had the dealer replace the blend door 2 yrs ago, wish I would have had them do the core at the same time.

let that be a lesson to y'all!!

I know that there is a trick to go through the plenum (yup, through it!) to replace the blend door without having to disassemble the entire dash. I wonder if the same trick will work for the heater core replacement.

Not sure how much you are into DIY though.
