New guy

First I would like to say hello and that i love this site. Lots of great info and its nice to know other people like blue ovals. Im kinda in a bowtie region of the world if you know what i mean. Second I would like to post a
problem with my 93 f250. It is a standard cab, 4x4, 351W, E4OD, 305/75/R16s, and roughly 130,000 miles, original motor and trans with no work done that i know of. When i put the truck in drive the tc locks up and kills the truck, it also locks up if you put in second gear from sitting still. However if i drop the shifter all the way into first it takes off normaly
with no lock up but as soon as I upshift manually into second the tc locks up and stays locked until I return the shifter to the first gear position. This problem is driving me insane. I need to fix it quickly as this is my service truck and I use it daily. Any insite is greatly appreciated and once again great site.

Also forgot to mention fully loaded with my normal equip. the truck is just over 8k lbs and is pulling a 16' trailer two days a week with up to anywhere from 1k lbs to 6k lbs. Thanks

Ok today I pulled the purple/yellow stripped wire out of the harness going to the trans, clipped the wire, and still absoultly no change at all im still locked up in every gear position but first. Tomorrow Im going to drop the pan and change the fluid and see if that helps anything. Also forgot to mention that the truck has 4" led tail lights like 18 wheelers use. Not sure if this might affect anything. This isn bugging the heck outa me. Seriously considering ripping the 12v cummins and nv4500 out of my dodge and puttin them in place of the 351 and e4od..................

The E4OD does not like LED lights. However they usually cause no converter lockup, as far as I can see.
I don`t know enough about E4OD programming to be certain but it may be that with the shifter in Low, the converter is never commanded to lock.
I think you are going to have to check the wiring harness from the connector on the trans, as it would seem that the converter lockup solenoid is getting a spurious signal from somewhere.
If you do a fluid and filter change, drain the torque converter as well. You will need about 17qts of fluid.
Also check the internal wiring for any damage while you have the pan off.

If you cut the the purple/yellow stripped wire you have taken the PCM Computer out of the problem and the computer then has no control over the TC clutch and will be on.

Sounds like the TC clutch solenoid is bad or its wire (purple/yellow stripped wire) going to the computer is always grounded.

The TC clutch is always off in the transmission in manual 1.

Ok correct me if I am wrong but if the tc lockup never engages in first like mine is doing now. Would that signal me the the solenoid is working and that my problem is in the control of the solenoid. Correct? Where does the wiring enter the trans. I have looked at it breifly but I have skids all under the truck (ex-gov vehicle) and I haven't had time to pull them down to check in depth. This is my first auto, up until now I have been a standard only guy. Starting to wonder if I should go back that way.lol

No it would not mean the solenoid is working as the solenoids out put can not reach the TC Clutch in 1st or Rev.

On the passenger side of the transmission.
