rear end swap
need some info please
will the 3rd member from 79 150 v8 auto trans be a direct swap to an 82 f100 I6 4sp?
if not could the entire axle be a direct swap?
i have a chance to get one at a rediculous low price and if it fits i could get rid of the 2.74 i currently have in the f100
help please.....

See if I am thinking correctly:
If both are 9 inch rears(smooth on the back, bolts on the front), and the 79 was a 31 spline axle, he could use the 31 spline pumpkin in a 28 spline rear if he swapped the spider gears.
I am thinking you can go 31 spline gears to 28 spline gears, but you can't go in reverse order because the hole in the 28 spline carrier is too small for the larger 31 spline axles. But I did have a machine shop tell me they can machine the hole bigger to fit, and they did it all the time.
