do I have a timing belt or chain? 2002 exp.
Hey guys, thought Id ask the pros ...
I have a 2002 Ford Explorer Sport 2dr, with the 4.0L SOHC engine. Bought the car new and have never replaced a timing belt /chain. I now have 215,000 miles and a few people have told me to replace the "timing belt/ chain" Am I pretty lucky that I havent had a problem given the miles? Would you reccomend me to change it? Thanks for any answers!

You have three chains.
One from the crank to a jackshaft in the block where the cam in the ohv model runs. Another one in the front of the engine connecting that shaft to the driver side cam. And another in the BACK of the engine connecting the jackshaft to the passenger side cam.
The cam guides/tensioners on early models were trouble, and failure usually bends valves.
If you made it 215,000 miles, you have the later style guide/tensioner. Is it making noise?
Probably just leave it alone if it's not making noise.
To replace the back one you have to pull the engine.
