I have a 1993 F-150 super cab dual tank / gas V8. I bought it 4 years ago from a mechanic who said that he had rebuilt the engine. I have not had any problems with it until this year. The truck would start without doing anything but turn the ignition switch. Since the start of this year a hot engine restart would have to be accomplished buy holding the pedal all the way down. It would start then run real rough and die when put into gear. Friday I left it run and when I headed back home it quit running. It acted like I had run out of gas, and it would not restart. I unplugged the vacuum line from the brake booster and got it to restart with starter fluid. Cold starts are like they always were and the hot restarts work without starter fluid if I have the vacuum line unplugged. After it runs for a while I plug it back into the booster and I can put it in gear without it dying. My air filter is not that old or dirty. My next step is to replace it anyway, but I would like to know what else I should be looking at to prevent it from dying as I drive, and what to do about the hot restart problem.
Thanks,
jackwilson
after thought,
I do not know how much fuel mileage this truck originally was supposed to get, but it seems it should be doing better than 10 or 11 mpg. The air pump has been disconnected and a shorter serpentine belt was installed by the previous owner.
