Hi, Well I figured my 99 f350 7.3 was due new glow plugs since, its been hard starting for a while. I pulled all 4 plugs on the right bank and all were dripping with oil... Is that normal? should there be oil in the holes where the glow plugs screw in? If not maybe thats why I have to plug it in every night... thanks, kerry
If they're still in the engine you can ohm the tip against battery ground and look for a reading of less than 2 ohms. If you've already pulled them, place the black lead on the threads and the red lead on the side the wiring plugs onto and look for the same ohm reading.
Do not install Autolite brand glow plugs in your motor. The tips tend to swell up over time and break off in the head.
Why not just get a piece of wire and test them since they are out now?
It's easy. ground the threaded body of the glow plug with the wire and touch the positive post of the glow plug to the positive post of the battery, taking great care not to touch the business end of the glow plug because it will get red hot in 5 seconds or less.
