I have a 2000 Ford Excursion, 6.8 V10.
Had a friend of a friend put a used F-250 V10 engine into my excursion due to blowing up my last engine. This engine is misfiring, and the man that put it in is totally clueless as to what he is doing. Took it to a shop, spent over a thousand and the misfire came back. Cylinders 1, 6, 7, 9, and 2 are misifires according to the computer. Supposedly the shop put new ones in, what are the steps I should take as far as fixing the problem myself?
I use the 'brutal force' method. Buy a new COP and one at a time, swap it with the others. Each time noting if it runs smoother. No doubt there are more intelligent "entirely satesfactory" methods - see the link below.
Cylinder misfires can be caused by plugs, coils or sometimes fuel injectors. Was the replacement engine running well when it was in the original truck? These engines like Motorcraft or Autolite Platinum plugs so that is a good place to start. To help narrow things down a bit, either swap coils with a known good cylinder or you can test them with a voltmeter. Here's a link which can help with the testing:
I have New spark plugs, 6 new coils, new fuel injector connectors. I will swap coils to see if that is the problem. And no, unfortunately, the guy who put the engine in, stole my old coils, wiring harness and fuel rail and quite a few other parts , so I think I will proceed to buy new coils. Are the ebay coils trustworthy and reliable? Also I was told that The ECM could be the problem. The truck ran good for about 2 days after I got it out of the shop. then it all came back. Also it has Autolite platinum Spark plugs which are brand new. Is it bad that I have driven the truck like this for over a month now?

Take it from me and my $80 mistake. Stay away, far away from the cheap knock off ebay cop's. I had 4 burn out in 4 months, about 1 per month. Rockauto.com has the DG508 motorcrafts for $45 each.
