My 99.5 powersteering pump has been getting increasingly louder over teh past couple months. Is there something I can do to fix it or do I need a new or reman pump?
Thank you
Another vote for Flush and replace fluid with a full synthetic ATF.
My son purchased a 2002 with 260,000 miles on it, and the pump growled like crazy even though the reservoir was full. The previous owner (one-owner vehicle) said it had been doing that for a number of years, but ran fine. My son did a complete fluid flush and replaced with a full synthetic ATF, and it has gotten to where there is hardly any noise at all coming from the pump.
This is for a superduty, but the procedure should be exactly the same. Just have to find the right line to disconnect and connect a hose to. Then turn the wheels from full lock to full lock (with truck jacked) keeping the reservior full until you have clean ATF fluid coming out.
