The thing you're all missing is that an oxygenate is REQUIRED in certain areas, and MTBE was used first. When MTBE was found to contaminate ground/drinking water, AND caused cancer, it was banned. The only thing left was Ethanol.
I'm not saying the "oxygenate required" was a good thing or not, but putting Ethanol in gas is more complicated than someone wanted to subsidize the corn farmers.
NOW - let's leave the politics, AND RELIGION out of this, or this thread gets closed.
Come on Art, grow a pair. This is a highly charged topic that is just as political as anything. Letting it go this long makes you an accessory.
My opinion is that it is a sham and hopefully it goes away soon. I am an avid boater and this crap is the worst thing I have ever dealt with.
IMO, there are no good technical or economic reasons for ethanol. It exists purely as a political item.
Al Gore publicly admitted that ethanol was a mistake, and that he pushed it for political reasons. Read the quote myself in a news article a while back. So hey, even Al Gore agrees with you. Or maybe you agree with Al Gore. Not sure if that makes you happy or scared.
